DakhaBrakhaДахаБраха

Ethno-chaos quartet blending Ukrainian folk with global rhythms

Biography

DakhaBrakha is a world-music quartet from Kyiv that describes its style as 'ethno-chaos.' Founded in 2004 at the Dakh Centre of Contemporary Art, the group — consisting of Marko Halanevych, Iryna Kovalenko, Olena Tsybulska, and Nina Garenetska — blends Ukrainian folk polyphonic singing with rhythms and instruments from around the world, including Indian tabla, Arabic darbuka, Australian didgeridoo, and West African djembe. Their theatrical performances, featuring distinctive tall sheepskin hats and elaborate staging, have made them a sensation at international festivals from Glastonbury to Bonnaroo. DakhaBrakha has become one of the most effective ambassadors of Ukrainian culture globally.
