Biography

Myroslav Skoryk was one of the most influential Ukrainian composers of the 20th century, known for brilliantly blending modern compositional techniques with Ukrainian folk traditions. His 'Melody in A minor' — composed for Sergei Parajanov's legendary film 'Shadows of Forgotten Ancestors' (1964) — became one of the most recognizable pieces of Ukrainian music and is often performed as a standalone concert piece. Skoryk's prolific output includes symphonies, concertos, operas, ballets, and chamber works. He served as the artistic director of the National Opera of Ukraine and taught at the Lviv Conservatory.
