ONUKAОНУКА

Electro-folk project fusing bandura and sopilka with electronic beats

Biography

ONUKA is a Ukrainian electro-folk project led by singer and multi-instrumentalist Nata Zhyzhchenko. The project's name means 'granddaughter' in Ukrainian, reflecting its mission to bridge the past and present of Ukrainian music. ONUKA's sound combines electronic production with traditional Ukrainian instruments — the bandura, sopilka (flute), and trembita — creating a futuristic yet deeply rooted sonic identity. The project gained massive attention during the 2017 Eurovision interval act in Kyiv, where ONUKA performed with the National Academic Orchestra of Folk Instruments. Their music has been praised for making Ukrainian folk heritage feel contemporary and globally relevant.
